Crypto exchange reviews for people living in Mexico

Every review answers the same questions: how you fund it from Mexico, what a real purchase costs in pesos, which documents you need as a resident or a foreigner, how you get money back to a bank, and what regulation sits behind it. No stars, no scores.

Most exchange reviews in English are written for someone in the US or the UK. They talk about ACH, SEPA and deposit insurance that does not apply here. If you live in Mexico, whether you moved for work, retired to the coast or are spending a season in Mexico City, the questions are different: does the platform take SPEIMexico's interbank transfer system, run by Banxico. Transfers between Mexican banks settle in seconds, 24/7., does it need a CURP, does it charge your card in pesos or dollars, and how long until money reaches your Mexican bank?

These reviews start from those questions. Below is the table of platforms we cover, how we assess them and a quick way to choose based on how you hold your money.

The table is ordered by how easy each platform is for a first purchase by card or bank transfer, not by popularity or a score. Each name links to the official site, and "Read review" opens our full write-up. Besides these eight, we review Coinbase and publish a direct Bitso vs Binance comparison.

How we assess each exchange

Every review follows the same structure, so you can compare them side by side. We do not give stars or numeric ratings, because a score blends factors that weigh differently for each reader. We check six things instead and tell you, with numbers, who each platform suits.

What we checkWhy it matters in Mexico
How pesos (or dollars) get inSPEI, OXXO cash, card or P2P change the cost and speed
Fees with a peso exampleA percentage means little until you see it on MXN 2,000 or 10,000
Limits and ID checksCURP rules and new-account caps decide whether you can start today
Withdrawal to a Mexican bankFree and instant is not the same as three business days
Coins availableNot every coin has a direct peso market
Regulatory footprintWhich license each entity holds and what it really covers

Figures come first from each company's official pages and from Mexican authorities such as Banxico, the CNBV and CONDUSEF. When only secondary sources exist we say so, and when we cannot confirm something we flag it rather than fill the gap. The full process is in our methodology.

Choose by how you will fund it

With a CURP and a Mexican bank account. SPEI is the cheapest route for mid-sized amounts. Bitso takes and returns pesos for free and has 12 direct MXN markets. Binance takes pesos through Medá, its Mexican payments arm, though withdrawals take one to three business days. Bybit accepts SPEI with a fixed or one-time CLABE; limits depend on your verification level, though an earlier guide mentioned MXN 10,000 a day. Kraken takes SPEI from MXN 150 but converts everything to dollars on arrival, and Bitget routes SPEI and OXXO Pay through third-party providers.

With a US or other foreign card. Faster, not cheaper: on top of the card fee, instant buys carry a spreadThe gap between the price you are quoted and the market price. A cost that often does not show up as a separate fee.. CEX.IO accepts Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay, verifies with a passport and bills in US dollars, which suits a dollar card. Crypto.com offers Mexico a USD account by SWIFT, with no confirmed peso rail. Our card buying guide explains why banks sometimes decline these charges.

Peer to peer. Binance, OKX, Bybit and Bitget run P2PPeer-to-peer: you buy from or sell to another person, and the platform holds the seller's crypto until payment is confirmed. markets in pesos, mostly for USDT. You will need a Mexican account in your own name to pay or get paid. The P2P guide covers the common scams.

Residency, CURP and why your paperwork decides

For English-speaking readers, the single biggest filter is not fees but documents. Mexican peso rails are tied to your identity: exchanges ask for a CURP, and SPEI deposits are only accepted from a Mexican account in your own name. Temporary and permanent residents receive a CURP with their residency, so once you have a local bank account the peso exchanges open up. On a tourist permit you have no CURP, which usually leaves card purchases billed in dollars or crypto sent from an exchange back home.

Your proof of address matters too. Platforms that verify where you live expect a document matching the country you declare, so sign up as a Mexico resident only if you actually live here, and keep a utility bill or bank statement in your name handy.

What no review can promise

One fact applies to all of them: no exchange currently holds a Mexican license to sell crypto to the public. Mexico's Fintech Law and Banxico's Circular 4/2019 do not allow regulated institutions to offer it. What exists is a split setup: pesos move through a Mexican IFPEInstitución de Fondos de Pago Electrónico: a CNBV-licensed fintech that holds electronic money in pesos., such as Nvio for Bitso or Medá for Binance, and crypto is held by an entity abroad.

In practice, peso balances on an exchange are not covered by IPAB, Mexico's deposit insurer, and a dispute over your crypto goes to the platform and to the regulator of the entity serving you. Our guide to whether crypto is legal in Mexico explains it plainly.

Frequently asked questions

Which crypto exchange suits foreigners in Mexico?

It depends on your paperwork. With temporary or permanent residency you have a CURP and can use peso exchanges such as Bitso or Binance by SPEI. On a tourist permit, a card-based platform that bills in dollars, such as CEX.IO, is usually simpler. Each review covers both cases.

Why no star ratings?

Because a single score blends things that matter differently to each person. A resident paid in pesos cares about free SPEI withdrawals; a visitor with a US card cares about paying without a CURP. We give the facts and a verdict per situation instead. See our methodology.

Which exchanges accept SPEI bank transfers?

Among those we review, Bitso, Binance (through Medá), Bybit, Kraken and Bitget accept peso deposits by SPEI. Kraken converts pesos to dollars on arrival and Bitget uses third-party providers. CEX.IO and Crypto.com have no peso rail. Details are in our SPEI guide.

How do you keep the reviews current?

We check fees, limits and payment methods against official pages and flag anything we could not confirm. If you spot something that changed, email contact@crypto-mexico.com and we will look at it.
