On this page
A useful review doesn’t say “it’s safe” or “it’s cheap”. It tells you what an SPEI deposit costs, how long a withdrawal takes and which document you’ll be asked for. This page explains what we check on every platform and where the numbers come from.
The six areas we look at
1. How your money gets in. We check whether the platform accepts SPEI, cards, OXXO cash or only P2P, who processes pesos (for example, an e-money institution authorized by the CNBV), and whether pesos are silently converted to dollars. For English-speaking readers we also check what works with a foreign card or without a Mexican bank account.
2. Real cost. Deposit fees, trading fees (maker and taker), the spread on instant buys, withdrawal and network fees. Wherever possible we show a worked example in pesos.
3. Limits and verification. Documents required (passport, INE, CURP, proof of address), new-account limits and what changes when you verify further.
4. How your money gets out. Withdrawals to a Mexican bank account, timing, minimums and alternatives such as P2P or e-wallets.
5. Regulatory footprint. Registrations and licenses each platform declares in Mexico and abroad, and how to check them in public registers.
6. Who it suits. There’s no perfect platform for everyone, so each review ends with concrete scenarios: a small buyer every payday, a USDT trader, a traveller, someone moving large amounts.
Why we don’t use star ratings
A 4.5-out-of-5 score hides more than it explains. We’d rather show you the facts and let you decide for your situation. In comparison tables we order platforms by how easy they are for a first-time buyer paying by card or bank transfer, and we say so.
Sources and verification
We use official sources first: each platform’s fee and limit pages and help centre, and documents from Banco de México, the CNBV, the SAT, CONDUSEF and the Diario Oficial de la Federación. When a figure only appears in the media or on third-party sites, we label it. If we couldn’t confirm it, we say so in the text instead of presenting it as fact.
Bitcoin ATMs are a special case: operators open and close machines often and public directories lag behind. We give approximate counts, cite the source and ask you to confirm a location before you go.
Calculators and prices
Our calculators use reference prices from CoinGecko’s public API, requested from your browser. If the service doesn’t respond, we show the last verified figure and its date. Fees used in calculators come from each platform’s official pages and are described next to each tool. They are estimates: the final amount is always shown by the platform before you confirm.
